hyc2proj can do projection and vertical interpolation of hycom output files. The output of hyc2proj is netcdf files which are compliant with the CF standard. Below is a description of the input files needed, and how to run the program. Input files: ------------ proj.in ------- defines the projection to use. There are three projections supported at the moment: native: Uses models own grid projection. In the proj.in file you specify "native" as projection, then you specify first and last indices and stepping in each grid direction (first dimension first, last, and stepping then last dimension first, last and stepping). polar_stereographic: Uses polar stereographic grid projection. In the proj.in file you specify "polar_stereographic" as projection, then you specify first and last projection coordinates and stepping in each grid direction. Finally, you can also choose to rotate vectors so that they are aligned with the polar stereographic grid. If this entry is set to false, vectors are aligned with local East / North directions. mercator: Uses mercator grid projection. In the proj.in file you specify "mercator" as projection, then you specify first and last projection coordinates and stepping in each grid direction. Vectors are aligned with east/north directions. extract files: -------------- Defines fields to extract from hycom (.a .b) files: Most of this file is legacy stuff, except for the names of the fields to extract. From line 6 and onwards, the names of the fields to extract are listed. Of importance here is the name of the field to extract (first entry on line) and the boolean value (last entry on line). The field name must match an existing field listed in the .b file, and the boolean value indicates if the field should be processed or not. The hyc2proj routine is clever enough to figure out if the extracted variable is 2D or 3D. The name of the extract file is slightly different for different hycom files: daily files : extract.daily weekly files : extract.weekly archv files : extract.archv restart files : extract.restart The reason for different file names, is that the names of the fields in the .b files are slightly different for the different hycom file types. deptlevels.in ------------- This files simply lists the number of depth levels, then the different depth levels to process. Depths are positive from the surface and down. How to run: ----------- Get the datafiles you want to process. You will also need the files regional.grid.[ab] and regional.depth.[ab], as well as the "grid.info" file. -Prepare the projection file (see above). Name it "proj.in" -Prepare the depthlevels.in file (see above) -Prepare the extract file. Make sure you have the correct extract file (and name) for the filetype you are processing. Run hyc2proj. Run it with no arguments to get a brief description of its usage. Note that it is possible to specify several files at the same time. Example: hyc2proj TP4DAILY_2015_311_2015_311.a TP4DAILY_2015_311_2015_312.a
